Can You Bring Props to Graduation Photos? (Yes — Here’s How)

Short answer: Yes — and they can make your photos even better.

When done right, props help personalize your graduation photos and tell your story beyond the cap and gown.

Here’s how to use props the right way.

Best Graduation Photo Props

Some of the most popular (and photogenic) props include:

  • Graduation cap & diploma

  • College flags or stoles

  • Champagne (for pop shots)

  • Flowers

  • Sports equipment

  • Varsity Jacket

  • Instruments or creative tools

At We Shoot Senior Photos, we help integrate props naturally so they never feel forced.

Props Should Add, Not Replace

We like to take a variety of photos.

Some with everything on - cap, gown, stole, cords, diploma etc… as well as some with just your suit/dress on, and usually a combination of both!

Location Matters

Certain props work best in certain locations:

  • Champagne pops → open outdoor spaces

  • Instruments → quiet campus spots

  • Sports gear → athletic facilities or fields

Knowing CU Boulder locations helps us plan this seamlessly.

Final Thoughts

Props should enhance your story — not overpower it.

If you’re unsure what to bring, we’re always happy to help plan ahead.
